Cold foil is an in-line rotary process that transfers metallic foil leaf to the facesheet of a pressure sensitive label. You can cold foil when printing your labels on a flexo press as a part of the process, or "in line." When printing digitally, cold foil is added as a secondary process and is performed, "off line." The method of printing does not affect the end result, a beautiful metallic effect accenting the primary colors of the label. This process is used primarily in the cosmetic, health & beauty, beverage & wine, and nutraceutical industries as it presents a dynamic package to the mass market. 

The benefit of cold foiling is that you can register printed graphics in one pass, creating a precise finished product. The ability to create this effect in one pass also allows for instant visibility of the look of the label. Cold foil is a competitively priced technology as compared to hot stamping which requires additional rotary dies, increasing the total cost of the job.
